Introduction to Rug Hooking

A beginner course in traditional rug hooking using a variety of fibre. The instructor,
Jean Ottosen, will demonstrate and then walk students through learning to hook a simple pattern on burlap backing.
In this class you will learn about:
- Various backings or foundation cloth for rug hooking
- Basic designing for rug hooking
- How to prepare your backing for hooking
- Various types of frames & hooks
- Different fibres you can hook
- How to hook
- A simple finishing technique
The all inclusive price includes: a 14” no-slip hoop, 18” square piece of burlap backing (with finished edges), a hook, material for pattern transferring, and mixed fibres to hook. Although if you have
What you will need in class: a soft HB or B pencil, a medium tip Sharpie permanent BLACK marker (others run when wet), a ruler, long quilting pins.
Needed to finish piece outside of class: long quilting pins, needle and upholstery or buttonhole thread to match backing (beige).
